Essential Rust Prevention for Dump Trucks: Be Careful in Rainy Weather, and Take More Measures at Sea

date:2026-07-29

Facing the perennial problem of rust, dump truck manufacturers must prioritize rust prevention before shipment to maintain true competitiveness. While getting rained on is commonplace, there's a situation far more damaging – sea freight. Today, let's discuss the crucial importance of rust prevention for dump trucks in rainy and sea freight environments, and how to prevent it.

Rust Prevention in Rainy Weather: The Key Lies in Daily Operations

Let's start with daily operations. Dump trucks deal with mud, sand, and ore daily, making the chassis and cargo box most vulnerable in rainy or snowy weather.

The chassis is the hardest hit area. Driving in the rain, the tires kick up mud and sand, creating a grinding effect on the chassis. If not cleaned promptly after rain, moisture trapped in the mud and grime will inevitably lead to rust. Therefore, rinse the chassis with clean water immediately after rain. Don't overlook the details of the cargo box either. If residual material remains on the interior walls of the cargo compartment, it will corrode over time. Scraping away the residue during unloading reduces the risk of corrosion.

Maritime Rust Prevention: A Real "Tough Battle"

If rainy-day rust prevention is routine maintenance, then maritime rust prevention is a true "tough battle." Dump trucks exported overseas often spend dozens of days at sea, exposed to high temperatures, high humidity, and high salt spray, an environment devastating to metal corrosion. The high salt ion content in the marine atmosphere easily settles on vehicle surfaces, and the strong hygroscopicity of chlorides forms a strong electrolyte film on metal surfaces, accelerating electrochemical corrosion. High humidity and temperatures reaching 50°C in some areas inside the hold easily breed mold, damaging the paint and electronic components.

So how do export trucks survive? Let's see how we do it.

First Step: Full Vehicle Waxing, "Wearing" a Protective Clothes

This is the most basic and crucial step in maritime rust prevention. Many professional export vehicles are coated with a protective wax before loading, forming a dense protective film that effectively isolates them from the corrosive effects of seawater salt spray. Implement full-frame wax sealing technology to protect the chassis and frame. The exterior surface of the dump truck body is treated with powder coating, effectively resisting sea salt spray and acid/alkali corrosion.

Second strategy: Structural design for proactive rust prevention. Coating and spraying alone are insufficient; structural design is crucial. Waterproofing is essential, with all lights, wiring harnesses, and connectors waterproofed to ensure normal operation in rain, snow, and even the high humidity of sea transport. Welding processes are also critical, using full-scale welding with specialized welding wire to not only increase frame strength but, more importantly, enhance sealing and rust prevention, preventing water from seeping into the welds.

Third strategy: Thorough packaging and securing. During loading, in addition to waxing, high-strength steel wire ropes and specialized wooden blocks are used for multi-point securing to prevent vehicle slippage and collisions during transport, while also providing moisture protection.

In short: Rust prevention for dump trucks relies on diligent work in rainy weather and meticulous craftsmanship at sea. For export vehicles, we must ensure thorough and effective rust prevention. After all, a car that doesn't rust or break down is more efficient at work and can go further.
